What you need to know about kids go karts
Can you believe that summer’s here again? Kids on school vacation and complaining of major boredom? Nothing exciting to do… no external stimulation? Don’t wanna watch TV or play video games or draw pictures or bathe Sparky or read Harry Potter or play dolls or ride bikes?
Keep in mind that during the school year… kids live in a super-active world. Their minds are stimulated during school hours learning interesting new topics, going on exciting field trips, show and tell, etc.
And of course there are tons of after school activities… ballet, hockey, Little League, piano and guitar lessons, etc. And don’t forget the weekends… sleepovers, video games, parties, helping dad wash the car, church, etc.
Sheesh! And we think we’re busy?
Now although being bored isn’t always such a terrible thing for the kids… you’ve quickly forgotten the other side of the coin… your SANITY!
Can you and your spouse make it through 16-18 hour days filled with whining and complaining by kids who are bored? And don’t forget to multiply those hours times your every waking hour during the summer… OMG… not a fun thought is it? I didn’t think so.
Would you like me to give you an activity that is tried and true? A proven solution for boredom?
Yeah… you guessed it… Kids Go-Karts!
Kids go-kart racing has become increasingly popular… boys and girls alike… especially in the United States. Some folks gather their kids, Fido and Tabby, jump in their RV or camper, and have a great time at the tracks for the entire weekend.
Racing around the track… whether it be inside or outside… is going to be so much fun for your kids that you’ll need to pry them from their karts! But guess what? Someone will need to pry you out too!
You and your kids are going to have so much fun that you’re going to mark kids go-karting on your calendar as a regular fun activity for the entire family… year after year!
This is probably one of the greatest ways for you and your kids to experience the thrill of having fun together! Whether they’re racing at the local track or cruising around the back yard (Oh NO!)… go-karting encourages your kids to get outdoors where the entire family can experience good old-fashioned fun.
Do your kids always ask you to let them drive… even the little tykes? Or do they fly down the sidewalk on their Big Wheel? Or has your “techie” kid tried to make their Radio Flyer go faster by attaching the electric lawn mower engine? Or maybe they had their tricycle attached to Sparky’s leash and went flying down the alley? They made their own kids go-karts!
Kids go-kart racing is probably one of the best ways to educate your child(ren) on healthy competition. Who knows… they may decide to become a professional racecar driver. There are many NASCAR drivers who got their start by driving kids go-karts… some as young as four years old. It’s not only one of the fastest growing motor sports… it’s also one of the safest and most economical.
Let’s also not forget that kids go-kart racing is extremely family-oriented and filled with such excitement that it usually sustains long-term interest. No more nagging and complaining of boredom!
It will probably be a good idea to visit a few go-kart tracks in your area… indoor and outdoor… to see where your children’s attention might lie. There are tracks all over the country that cater to kids… from the little ones to teens to adults.
Although there are risks related to any type of motor sport, if you exercise a few safety precautions… everything should be just fine. Karting has an excellent safety record due to the adult participants being super-conscientious in their own family’s safety… in addition to keeping an eye on those around them.
Years ago, go-kart speeds were so very slow that helmets weren’t required. But today… the speeds necessitate that tracks everywhere… even the kiddie tracks… require helmets and safety harnesses.
Also, today’s go-karts are built with roll bars that rise above the driver’s head and side bars so that if you flip over, the safety harness, roll bars, and side bars will do an excellent job of keeping you out of harm’s way.
In addition to the overall safer design, there are also ongoing improvements that serve to protect the driver such as a better braking system.
Kids go-karts usually have a protective cage that’s connected to the top of a steel chassis. The engine… which is smaller for young children and larger for older children… is sometimes behind the driver’s seat… so you’re assured that the child driver has maximum protection.
Adults and kids alike must wear safety gear like:
· Approved Helmet
· Safety Harness
· Safety Goggles
· Fire Safety Suit
· Neck Brace or Collar
· Fire Retardant Driving Gloves
· Fire Retardant Driving Boots
Although an adult has more control over the amount of possible danger experienced in a go-kart than a five year old does… wearing the above-mentioned protective gear can spare everyone from severe hazards.
Although all of the above are important… wearing the appropriate safety helmet will spare you and your child a serious brain injury in the event of a crash.
Never, ever forget to fasten you and your child’s safety harness. The likelihood of being thrown from the cart upon impact and rolling is small.
Although the adult and kids go-karts don’t hold much gasoline… there is always a possibility… however remote… that the go-kart will catch on fire. This is why wearing the fire safety suit and accessories are so very important to avoid loads of pain and suffering.
In addition to the gas-powered karts… there are battery/electric powered kids go-karts that offer exceptional power and acceleration! Also… there’s the additional safety of battery/electric power vs. gas power. Insurance and maintenance costs are lower than the gas powered kids go-karts.
These battery/electric powered kids go-karts may be an excellent choice for very small children. Less movable parts means less places for tiny fingers to get stuck and hurt. Also, they don’t reach speeds that may be an issue for parents. The only precaution is that they be driven on flat terrain… rough terrain is dangerous.
These battery/electric kids go-karts can be operated indoor or out and they use gel-type batteries that are safe and non-flammable.
And in performance and handling… these battery/electric karts outperform the gas powered kids go-karts. Plus… the battery/electric karts are environmentally friendly. There’s no dangerous carbon monoxide emitted and no ventilation is required for indoor use.
Go-karts have come a long, long way from their inception in 1956 by inventor Art Ingels. Much attention has been paid to the area of safety for all go-karts… both adult and kids go-karts. They’ve also added electric start engines to some… full suspension to others… and padded seats to others.
And although it’s not a good practice to drive any go-kart at night… sometimes the sun goes down before you know it and you’re in the dark. You can thwart any accidents by adding reflectors and/or lights.
You’re probably thinking that there are way too many precautions to have fun. But in fact… just the opposite is true. These precautions will become second nature and you’ll have so much more fun just knowing that you and your kids are very well protected with little possibility of major injury.
Usually… the outdoor racing track is a dirt track and straw bales are placed along the outer edges of the track to keep accidents as safe as possible.
Parents usually get involved with their kids between the races by teaching them to look after his/her own cart by removing the crusty mud and keeping it at clean as possible.
Go-karts are fast, thrilling, and really easy to control so your kids can experience the fun of racing their kids go-karts with the same excitement that the Indy or Formula One racers experience without all the risk.
Although there are other fun motor vehicles…
· Dirt Bikes
…the 4-wheeled kids go-kart really has no competition. Your kids will race down the track, speed around corners, maneuver the curves, and scream with excitement every time they pass up a slower driver… especially if it’s one of their own siblings! Or better yet… YOU!
The thrill of your kids go-karts is unbeatable! Your adrenaline is pumping now… isn’t it? You can feel the excitement!
No more kids whining about how bored they are. That in itself should give you the BEST reason to try this great motor sport. I doubt very seriously that you’ll be watching the races from the stands. Of course, if they’re kiddie races you’ll watch without participating… won’t you?
So… whether you’re a parent with one child or ten… and looking for fun and extreme excitement as a family… begin with the kids go-karts for the little ones (4-years old) and the track managers will put the older kids into the appropriate karts.
I hope you’re convinced that racing Kids Go-Karts is an extraordinary way to begin this summer… experiencing family fun, loads of excitement, and fantastic entertainment! It’s an experience your family will never forget!
Happy Family Go-Karting!
